STORYLINE...Once a Month!

Item #1 - Beginning in September we are going to go to a monthly newsletter instead of bi-monthly. Obviously, with postal costs constantly going up it will be a way to save money and also a way to save some time.  That is the up-side.  The down-side is that it will take more planning both in the office and also with all the committees and organizations of the church to make sure that we have all the news that needs to be included in the monthly edition.

It also means that we all will have to pay closer attention to the announcements posted in the bulletin each Sunday morning, and for those who check the website via computer, Paula continues to regularly update the activities. The  articles are posted under the  Builder heading on our web page.

If we see that this approach isn’t working satisfactorily, we can always go back to the bi-monthly newsletter.

Item #2 - On a separate page in this newsletter you will find a proposed amendment to the church constitution and by-laws.  For all practical purposes it is changing the terminology of the Permanent Investment Fund Trustees to that of the Investment Committee. It is what you might call “a cosmetic change” but is necessary because of the way the constitution and by-laws are worded.  Read the rationale for the change and also the change itself.  It has already been approved by the General Board. We will vote on it on AUGUST 16.

As Ever,
David

“A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR” - Sandra Westmoreland

STEWARDSHIP - Connie sent me an email today which contained the following statement: “The love of God is an ocean, you can see from where it comes but you can never see where it ends.”  How blessed we are here at Richfield, but the summer months have taken a toll on our finances, as I am sure it has yours.  Giving was down significantly in July as people were on vacations, etc, so the Stewardship Committee and I, as your Board Chair, are asking for your help to catch up and even give a little extra if you can.  The programs and expenses of the church continue even when you are away.  The love of God is with us every day giving us abundant blessings both seen and unseen -- how can we do less than to share those blessings.  See you on Sunday!

OOPS!

We forgot Norma Beaver’s birthday on the August calendar. It will be August 26!

NEXT WORKDAY - AUGUST 15

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP NEWS (DWF)

The officers for this next year will have their planning meeting on Tuesday, August 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall.  Our regular meetings will begin again in September, so watch your newsletter and announcement sheet for the date and time.  Remember DWF is open to all women of the church.

THANKSGIVINGS RECEIVED

I just want to thank all of my Richfield family for the cards, telephone calls and visits in the hospital.  I am home now and feeling much better.  Our church is great!

                                                                                             Vivian Bushnell

Dear Church Family: Thank you so much for your prayers, cards and flowers during the illness and loss of my mother.  We are so blessed to have such a support system within our church family.  We love each of you.

                                                                                             Jim and Teresa Copeland

SCOUT NEWS

The Boy Scouts went to Utah on a summer trip - had a lot of fun and some new camping experiences.  We will have a Court of Honor for the boys to receive their summer awards (more information to follow) and all will be invited to attend.  Popcorn Sales (our biggest fundraiser) will begin for both the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in September.

Staci Jay, Assistant

RCC BOWLING LEAGUE

We completed our summer league with “3-Peat” (Chris Glass, Meridith and Scott Moffatt) living up to their name and winning the league for the third consecutive time.  The “Winners” (John and Sandra Westmoreland) came in second, followed by the “Clogger and Plodder” (Martha Corley and Budge Kimbell) and “Winnin’ & Grinnin’ “ (Vivian Helm, Rachel and Pete Moffatt.)  John provided the highlight of the season, bowling a career high 204!  Other high scores this season were Vivian - 204, Martha - 201, Budge - 185, Meridith - 172 and Scott - 162.  Our fall league will begin soon.  All church members and visitors are invited to join the fun!
