STORYLINE...The Presence of Christ!

In both Easter services I made the comment that we were there not only to celebrate Easter, but also to celebrate the presence of Christ with us, and that we kept coming back to church Sunday after Sunday to “refresh” that presence.

I hope that you were able to be with us for the entire Holy Week -- it was really special for me.  As you know, we hosted the Maundy Thursday service with our sister churches, and the music and message were outstanding. (By the way we collected over $600.00 to be sent to the Trinity-Brazos Area.) Our 24-Hour Prayer Vigil was equally good and the time slots were completely filled. Several people said to me how beneficial the time in prayer was for them.

Our early service breakfast was four-star with eggs, sausage gravy, bacon, ham, sausage and pancakes. Steve Rosas and his crew did an outstanding job.

The second service was filled with excitement as we baptized three of our youth who had completed the Pastor’s Class: Holly Clay, Emily Clay and Cierra’ Randolph.  It was a real blessing for this preacher and for our whole congregation.

Indeed, we all experienced the presence of Christ and if you were not able to be with us, I hope that we will greet you around the Lord’s Table next Sunday as we share the cup together and the Spirit of God among us.

As Ever,
David

“A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR” - Sandra Westmoreland

“The Dart Test” - - A young lady named Sally entered into her seminary class.  Her professor, Dr. Smith, was known for his elaborate object lessons.  On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many darts.  Dr. Smith told the students to draw a picture of someone that they disliked or someone who had made them angry, and he would allow them to throw darts at the person’s picture.  Several students drew pictures of someone who stole their boyfriends or girlfriends, little brothers, etc.  Sally drew a picture of her former friend in great detail and was very pleased.  The class lined up and began throwing darts.  Sally was very disappointed that the class ended before her turn.  Sally was angry as Dr. Smith removed the target and revealed a mangled picture  of Jesus full of holes and jagged marks.  Dr. Smith only said these words…”In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me.”  Matthew 25:40 - - What a good lesson for all of us.  See you on Sunday!

Lura McKamie continues her rehab at Regent Care.  Price Brock had successful pacemaker replacement and is doing well.  Frances Clay had cataract surgery on March 16 and is still experiencing some difficulty. Barbara Cohn's surgery scheduled for April 20 has been postponed. Laurie Hall (Rachel Weeaks's sister) had a surgical procedure two weeks ago and the biopsy report was negative. Michael Kattness (Lisa’s nephew) is tolerating the anti-rejection drugs for his bone marrow transplant. Bill Millsaps (Lucille Dewlen’s brother) is critically ill in Waco.

HEART OF TEXAS SERTOMA KITE FESTIVAL

Several members of the church belong to the Heart of Texas Sertoma Club.  They will have a Kite Festival on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00-3:00 at the Heart of Texas Miniature Aircraft Field.  The festival is free, parking is free, and they will give away 100 kites.  There will be games and food vendors.  There is a flyer on the bulletin board  for more information.  What a great way to spend time with your children and grandchildren!!!

SCOUT PACK 403

The parents and leaders of Pack 403 want to thank Richfield Christian Church for all their support.  We had a very successful Spaghetti Luncheon.  We collected $667.00 from the lunch and bake sale.  Thank you also to Jake Blankinship, who matched the funds up to $500.00.  The funds raised will be used to help scouts attend Summer Day Camp in June.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE REPORT

On behalf of and to the Education Committee, due to your generous commitment of time, talent, treasure and treats, the Easter Egg Hunt and game play time allowed the young and young-at-heart to have a great time on Saturday.  We had over 40 children and as many adults attend.  The burgers were the best. I overheard Van Tusa tell someone that one thing about our church is that everyone pitches in to make events like these a success.  I could not agree more!!!

The Education Committee will host the Grads & Dads Fellowship Luncheon on Sunday, June 7.

Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 14-18, and I am in need of a pre-school teacher.  Please contact me if you would like to teach or co-teach.

Kent Holguin,
Education Committee Chair
