The Builder May 13, 2009 David E. Story, Pastor STORYLINE...Saying or Doing! Last week at the nursing facility someone, in reference to the red tape that we are going through (not only us, but all who try and get help from Medicaid), said, “When everything is said and done, there is usually more said than done!” It has been a long time since I heard that, but as I write this article, it has come to my mind again. Sometimes we are long on saying and short on doing. I am not saying that to be critical of anyone, because I am just as guilty of it as anyone else. So this article is just as much a reminder to me as to you. Years ago I told the story about ten frogs sitting on a log. Nine of them decided to jump in the water. Then I asked, “How many frogs were left?” The obvious answer would be "one!" But I quickly gave the correct answer and it was “ten.” Why? Because deciding to jump and actually jumping are two different things. Saying or doing, which is it for us? The Scriptures remind us to be “doers of the Word and not hearers only,” and Jesus spent his time on earth training his disciples to “do the work to which they had been called.” Let me encourage you to do the work of a disciple, to make that hospital call, to visit that nursing facility, to send that card of cheer, to phone that person that missed church last week, and a hundred other ways in which you and I can “do” ministry. The Great Commission to “go make disciples” is an ongoing commission, and it is intended for us as well as the first disciples. “Let us now be up and doing, still achieving, still pursuing.” God is counting on us.
As Ever,

“A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR” - Sandra Westmoreland “Teamwork” -- Isn’t that when the best things happen -- when everyone is working together toward a common goal? That is exactly what happened last Tuesday at the tasting luncheon. “Thanks” to the planners, workers, dishwashers, ticket-sellers, attendees, and most of all, a special “Thank You” to the wonderful cooks of Richfield. Thanks also to Shelia Leggett for her gift of quilts, to Inez Montgomery for her decorating talent, to Paula Story for designing the tickets and to Jake Blankinship for his donation. Because of everyone’s generosity (including the men), Disciples Women made $1871.00. Teamwork is something I see over and over from the Richfield congregation -- how blessed we are. See you Sunday.

Can You Hear Me Now? Have you had problems hearing during the worship service? Sometimes it is harder to hear in certain areas of the sanctuary. There are hearing devices that will amplify the worship service (the preacher, worship leader, elders and choir) to a comfortable level. They are in the Information Hallway, and John Westmoreland will be happy to show you how to use one.
