STORYLINE...Saying or Doing!

Last week at the nursing facility someone, in reference to the red tape that we are going through (not only us, but all who try and get help from Medicaid), said, “When everything is said and done, there is usually more said than done!”  It has been a long time since I heard that, but as I write this article, it has come to my mind again. Sometimes we are long on saying and short on doing. I am not saying that to be critical of anyone, because I am just as guilty of it as anyone else. So this article is just as much a reminder to me as to you.

Years ago I told the story about ten frogs sitting on a log.  Nine of them decided to jump in the water.  Then I asked, “How many frogs were left?”  The obvious answer would be "one!"  But I quickly gave the correct answer and it was “ten.”  Why?  Because deciding to jump and actually jumping are two different things.

Saying or doing, which is it for us?  The Scriptures remind us to be “doers of the Word and not hearers only,” and Jesus spent his time on earth training his disciples to “do the work to which they had been called.”

Let me encourage you to do the work of a disciple, to make that hospital call, to visit that nursing facility, to send that card of cheer, to phone that person that missed church last week, and a hundred other ways in which you and I can “do” ministry. The Great Commission to “go make disciples” is an ongoing commission, and it is intended for us as well as the first disciples. “Let us now be up and doing, still achieving, still pursuing.” God is counting on us.

As Ever,
David

“A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR” - Sandra Westmoreland

“Teamwork”  -- Isn’t that when the best things happen -- when everyone is working together toward a common goal?  That is exactly what happened last Tuesday at the tasting luncheon.  “Thanks” to the planners, workers, dishwashers, ticket-sellers, attendees, and most of all, a special “Thank You” to the wonderful cooks of Richfield.  Thanks also to Shelia Leggett for her gift of quilts, to Inez Montgomery for her decorating talent, to Paula Story for designing the tickets and to Jake Blankinship for his donation.  Because of everyone’s generosity (including the men), Disciples Women made $1871.00. Teamwork is something I see over and over from the Richfield congregation -- how blessed we are.  See you Sunday.

Disciples Women (DWF) News

Don’t miss the meeting this month on Tuesday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m. After all of the hard work for the Tasting Luncheon, we will be treating ourselves to dinner out at Cheddars.  If you plan to attend, please call the church office or sign the sheet in the Information Hallway.  We need to know how many to plan for and if you will need a nursery.

WORKDAY—MAY 16

We will have a church workday on May 16 beginning at 8:00 (an hour earlier than usual to beat the heat).  There will be inside and outside work to be done and we can use your help.  We hope to finish by noon.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Have you had problems hearing during the worship service?  Sometimes it is harder to hear in certain areas of the sanctuary.  There are hearing devices that will amplify the worship service (the preacher, worship leader, elders and choir) to a comfortable level. They are in the Information Hallway, and John Westmoreland will be happy to show you how to use one.

AMONG OUR PEOPLE

Doug Neale has finished his rehab at Weston Care in Temple and is now home.   Dawn Rene’ Andrews (David and Paula’s niece) will have surgery in May.   Don Montgomery (Clint’s brother) remains in the hospital in San Antonio.   John Westmoreland continues with his recuperation and is weaning from the nutrition tube. Lura McKamie at this writing is receiving  IV antibiotics at St. Catherine's.   Barbara Cohn will have surgery in May or June. Paul MacKenzie will probably need a defibrillator implant. Michael Kattness (Lisa’s nephew) is tolerating the anti-rejection drugs for his bone marrow transplant.  James Clay and Jack Cox are both suffering from respiratory problems. Winona Baugh drove herself to the hospital last week and waited three hours in the ER without being seen.  She left and came back the next morning and within 45 minutes was in surgery for appendix removal. Van Tusa had laser procedures last week on kidney stones and is home and doing better. Grant Story  is  in a  nursing facility in San Antonio waiting for Medicaid assistance to get him back home.

Serving In Iraq: Tony Ramirez (James McCord's nephew) ~ Michael Hunt (Debbie Webb's co-worker's son)

Serving In Afghanistan: Andy Bianchi (friend of the Leggetts) ~ Joe Davis (Valera Labit's grandson)

Serving In Africa: Lathan Thurman (Linda Sykora's son)

Pray for all of these and pray for the parents of our congregation and parents around the world as they lead their families in building Christian homes.

Sympathy Extended

We extend our deep sympathy to Lucille Dewlen in the death of her brother, Bill Millsaps. His service was held last week in Waco.
