The Builder June 3, 2009 David E. Story, Pastor STORYLINE...Pentecost People! In the sermon last Sunday we celebrated Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birthing of the church. Two questions were asked in the text from the second chapter of The Acts of the Apostles. The first was: “What does this mean?” And the second was: “What should we do?” It struck me as I prepared to write this article that those two questions are part and parcel of the Christian life. They are questions that we ask many times in our journey as Pentecost People. So, what does it mean to be Pentecost People? It means that we have accepted the Spirit of God as the foundation for our living, that we let God lead us, strengthen us, and fill us with courage and hope. It means that we have received the blessings that God has offered, and in return comes the “doing” part. Peter told the crowd assembled to repent (turn around, change direction, believe and act as if God is in control). They did, and three thousand were added to the church. The “doing” part is our opportunity in word and deed to show the love of God through Jesus Christ in every way we can. The “doing” part is what makes the church "the church" and not just another meeting place. We are Pentecost People -- you and I -- and God has called us to be witnesses to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Keep the faith; continue the witness and God will add the blessings.

“A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR” - Sandra Westmoreland So many things to do and so little time -- As I was rushing around trying to get everything done before we left town, I read an e-mail from Rev. Dan Pike which ended in the following way: “Remember not to look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone. Do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.” Ecclesiastes 3: 9-12: “I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.” I intend to start today trying to make every day as beautiful as I can—how about you? See you on Sunday.

Thanksgiving Received
We wish to thank our wonderful church family for the cards and compassionate words of sympathy and comfort we have received since the death of my brother. Our comfort is knowing that to be absent from the body is to be in the presence of God. God bless you all, Al and Lucille Dewlen
OUTREACH NEWS Providing assistance to those in need is one of the very important aspects of what Richfield Christian Church is all about. One of the programs that we have in place is collecting food for Caritas. While we are still collecting canned fruit, due to an urgent need we have added beans, rice, potato flakes all types of pasta products to our collection efforts. Let’s help fill that urgent need by filling up that grocery cart in the Fellowship Hall and keeping it full! David McMahan, Outreach Chair
