The Builder July 22, 2009 David E. Story, Pastor STORYLINE...Thinking About Things !
By the time you read this it will be old news. Sometime between last Monday night and Tuesday morning someone broke into my truck on the motel parking lot in San Antonio and took “things” that didn’t belong to them. I am not the first to fall victim to thieves and robbers, and I won’t be the last — but knowing that doesn’t make what happened any easier for me.
One of the nurses at the facility told Grant, “I hope they repent!” My comment was not nearly as sympathetic, and I won’t embarrass you or me by telling you what I said or what Grant said.
Oddly enough, they didn’t steal my Bible — the one thing that they needed the most — they stole “things.” Things, some of which are replaceable and some that are not; some that had great value and some that had no value at all except to me. “Things!”
The manager of the motel said, “It is the way they make their living!” They make their living stealing “things.” It is difficult for me to wrap my mind around that: they make their living stealing “things” from others. Isn’t there a commandment about that?
The insurance took care of most of the “things,” and God will take care of the rest . Now we move on and give thanks to God that no one was injured because of “things.”
As Ever,

“A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR” - Sandra Westmoreland Oh, the power of positive thinking — how hard it is to do sometimes. I recently received an e-mail that said, “When God leads you to the edge of the cliff, trust Him fully and let go. Only 1 of 2 things will happen: either He’ll catch you when you fall, or he will teach you how to fly.” How hard it is to let go as we hang on to the precipice by our fingernails sometimes. I guess this particularly struck me when I thought about all of the names on our Care and Concern list. It reminded me of the hymn that says, “O love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, that in Thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be.” How lucky we are to know the love of God. See you on Sunday.
OOPS!
We forgot Chris Glass’s birthday on the calendar. It will be this Sunday, July 26!
NEXT WORKDAY - AUGUST 15
OUTREACH NEWS It’s that time of the year again. The time of year that some look forward to with great anticipation and others dread to see. Back-to-school is rapidly approaching. That means that many of the poorer families in our community are faced with the prospect of purchasing school supplies for their children that they cannot afford. Mission Waco will again open their school supply store for low income families where school supplies can be purchased at greatly-discounted prices. Once again they have asked for our help. Anyone who would care to donate to this worthwhile project may make out their check to the church and mark it “school supplies.” David McMahan, Outreach Chair
FELLOWSHIP NEWS The Fellowship Committee will sponsor the First Sunday Fellowship Luncheon on August 2. It is still too hot to heat up the kitchen so let’s have sandwiches, chips, salads and desserts. Please bring enough for your family and one other person. Barbara Wilson, Fellowship Chair
