“STORYLINE... HIT THE MUTE BUTTON!
Fall is just around the corner, bringing kids back to school, our Fall Festival (Halloween), our Stewardship campaign, Fall Bible study, the seasons of Thanksgiving and Advent -- and we are gearing up; getting ready; preparing. The truth of the matter is that we are always “gearing up” for something in the life of the church. That is what makes us viable; that is what gives our ministry life.
Our Fall Bible Study will focus on the prophets Amos and Hosea. It will be an eight-week study beginning September 19. It will cost $18 for the book. It is a “Kerygma” study, one of the leading Bible study programs in the world. A sign-up sheet is in the Information Hallway. If you are interested, you MUST sign up soon. We will meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 (or right after choir).
Elsewhere in this newsletter you will note a variety of events that are upcoming. Please mark them on your calendars and make every effort to be actively involved.

A View From the Chair of Membership... Prayer
~Vivian Helm
A couple of Sundays ago David’s sermon was about prayer. Just thinking about prayer is comforting. Prayer is something anyone can do; at any place; at any time. Can you think of anything that has these characteristics?
The more we pray the better we get. God is an ever present conversationalist and an expert on any subject, waiting to be engaged. It is your loss if you don’t start the conversation.
SAVE THE DATE!
SEPTEMBER 22 - ALL CHURCH WORKDAY!
Thanksgivings Received!
Dear Friends and fellow members,
Thank you so much for the cards, visits, prayers, and support during my stay in the hospital. I am feeling much better and hope to return to worship with you all very soon.
Sincerely,
Ann Woodard

Dear David and Richfield friends,
We want to thank so many of our Richfield Family for their cards and phone calls. It is so good to be remembered in such a special way. We think of you often and hope to be able to be among you sometime in the future.
And we would like to thank you, David, for spending your valuable time in visiting with us. Your visits meant so much!
With love to all of our Richfield family.
Lee and Bea Helm

Dear Church Family,

Attention - JYF Back-to School Cookout!
I have rescheduled our super “fantastic” back-to-school cookout party for September 16. Please meet at the church parking lot at 5:00 p.m., and we’ll take the van to the park. We will return by 8:00. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Info Hallway this Sunday. Don’t eat because I’m cooking burgers and dogs. Parents are invited to come along. We will have games, good food and lots of fun. I want to thank you for such good behavior on our last outing. Bring a friend if you want too, just let me know who will be coming. I am looking forward to seeing you this Sunday and again on the 16th.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE NEWS
As the summer is coming to an end, we are gearing up for a great fall season. Promotion Sunday is scheduled for September 9, to celebrate the students who will be moving up to the next age group in Sunday School. We are so proud of our kiddos!
The Crossroads Sunday School class will be continuing to join the Christ Our Example class indefinitely. We have finished the 12 Ordinary Men study and start a new study this Sunday.
RCC BOWLING LEAGUE
Our summer league is winding down, with only two weeks of bowling remaining. Team 1 (Martha Corley, Vivian Helm and Ruth Merilian) are leading the league and showing the men up! “Family Affair” (Budge Kimbell, Pete Moffatt and Rachel Moffatt) are a close second, followed by Team 4 (Bill Fuller and Charlene Isbell) and “Jack Pack” (Jack Clarke, Kent Holguin and Sandra Westmoreland). Martha has the high game thus far with a 203, followed by Pete (202), Vivian (200) and Bill (187). We will not bowl this Monday (Labor Day), but will start again September 10. CWF NEWS
The CWF will meet on Tuesday, September 18, at 6:00. Please bring your favorite salad or dessert to share. We will make plans for the upcoming 2007-08 year. We invite all women of Richfield to attend. Our Outreach project for September will be a GENTLY-USED children’s book drive to help Amy (Bunting) Grogan collect books to distribute to children in the school where Amy’s church meets to worship.
Living Water Lutheran Church (Leander, TX) has adopted an elementary school as part of their mission in the community. The school has about 700 students in K through 5th grade, the majority of which are underprivileged. Last year’s reading test scores were low, and many students do not have any books of their own. Living Water Church is sponsoring a “Back-To-School” party for the school and hopes to provide a “gently -used” book for each child. If you can help with this project, please bring books to the church office or the box in the Information Hallway by Sunday, September 16. A book is a precious gift.
